The widow of the former vice president, Matilda Amissah-Arthur, has hit hard at all ‘hypocrites’ in Ghana’s political divide who turned out with best wishes upon her husband’s demise after ‘painting him black’ while he was alive. In what looked like a frank and truthful tribute to her husband, Matilda Amissah Arthur turned down her script to speak her mind to an audience of political heads and leaders who all wore sad and mournful faces.
“Over the last few days, I have been amazed at the messages of love and I ask myself, is this Ghana, are all these people in Ghana? Because the maligning, the lies, the treachery, the wickedness, the deliberately changing things so that you could look better than others, the mischievousness, I ask myself; Is this Ghana; I ask myself is this the same people who have come to pay tribute to my husband and today I ask the question, did people really know my husband?” she lamented. The painful words from Matilda Amissah-Arthur expand the debate on how polarized Ghana’s political system has been. Amissah-Arthur has suffered much mudslinging including allegations of being gay. A special burial service is underway at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for the final burial rites for the late former vice president, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur. The event has attracted top echelons from the country’s political landscape converge at the AICC to pay their final respects to the late vice president. The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has shared his fond memories of the late vice president, Amissah Arthur ahead of his burial on July 27th. Before that, his remains will be laid in state at the foyer of the Accra International Conference Centre for filing past by the general public on Thursday, 26 July.
